Ana Rocha de Sousa
Born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, Rocha de Sousa has a degree on Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts - University of Lisbon.
A Master’s degree in London, made Ana found her deepest direction as a filmmaker both in fiction and documentary gathering her previous background knowledge in video, art installation and photography. Ana’s work navigates between fiction in a social realism context and documentary in observational silent journeys close to people.
In 2020 Ana’s debut fiction feature, Listen, premiered at the 77th Venice International Film Festival, where Ana won the official Lion of the Future Prize and Listen collected several awards and distinctions such as the official Special Orizzonti Jury Prize, the parallel award Bisato d’Or for Best Film given by the Independent Jury Critics and Sorriso Diverso Venice Award for social impact causes.
Listen premiered and competed at top global International leading festivals. Rocha de Sousa works closely with actors due to her 12 year on-screen experience as an actress, but her interests span several areas. Her roots are not only from acting, but also photography, scenography, painting, drawing, and storytelling.
